This simple-to-do dish is for first timer who wants to learn cooking. It is cooked slowly so that meat becomes really tender.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon Five-spice powder
- 4 sprigs Spring onions (scallions)
- 3 slices Ginger root, finely sliced
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- 2 tablespoons Rice wine or dry sherry
- 6 tablespoons Soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Oil
- 1 kg Shin of beef
Instructions
- Cut the beef into small cubes.
- Cut the onions into 1 in lengths.
- Heat the wok and brown the beef before blanching it in a pot of boiling water for a few seconds.
- Pour the water away and cover with fresh cold water.
- Add onions, ginger root, five spice powder, sugar, soy sauce, and rice wine or sherry.
- Place a tight fitting lid over the pan.
- Boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer gently for 3 – 4 hours.
- Serve hot or cold, in whichever way desired.
